Hello, Drum Friends!
This is a quick, easy overview of playing drums at Haflas and Middle Eastern drum circles.
In this mini-course you will learn to play your doumbek/darbuka/derbekki/tabla (or whatever you want to call it!) at casual Middle Eastern drum events such as Haflas, SCA drum circles, and belly dance events.
This quick course will help you get on your feet with little to no experience or act as a refresher if you haven't played in a while.
It covers the basics of listening and playing at a Middle Eastern drum circle with or without dancers, how to hit the drum without hurting yourself (or others!), and some of the most commonly-played rhythms at these events. There are also a few bonus rhythms and some advice on how to solo!
This is an easy rhythm guide with no complicated techniques or technical jargon.
What you'll get:
- About three hours of bite-sized videos
- Useful tips for how to join a drum circle and start playing
- Tips on how to hit the drum and play with confidence
- Separate video lessons covering each common rhythm
- Play-alongs for each rhythm, where you can practice the base rhythm or solo over it
- Access to this course for as long as it exists online
- A renewed sense of meaning in life
- Confidence, friends, maybe even a new dog!
- You'll laugh 'till you stop!
I am not an AV expert, so these lessons are presented in a very casual, unedited format, just as if you were taking a live class with me. In other words, they are candid and not over-engineered (although I did remove the Cloverfield edition where my laptop jumped off the table mid-recording!).
I may tidy up or re-record sections or this course later, or add additional modules. As a founding member, you will get access to any changes I may make.
Thank you for your buying my very first recorded course!
Yours in drumming,
Elissa
